February 13 – Life Before The Civil War

On this date in 1862, Fort Henry had recently surrendered to Union forces under the command of Admiral Foote and General Grant, who were now preparing for an assault on Fort Donelson along the banks of the Cumberland River near Dover, Tenn. But what was life like in this area during the years before war came to Land Between the Rivers?

Visit The Homeplace Living History Farm for a glimpse of daily life in antebellum middle Tennessee. Enjoy a self-guided tour of a working second generation family farmstead and learn just how important rivers were to families that lived in this area during the 1850s.
