Head on over to Kenlake on August 27th and 28th, for the 21st Annual Hot August Blues Festival at Kenlake State Resort Park Amphitheater on scenic Kentucky Lake where you're guaranteed two days of unforgettable entertainment and fun!

Since its creation, the Hot August Blues Festival has remained a "must attend" event in the western Kentucky region!

In 2009, we celebrated the 20th Anniversary of the festival. With the first twenty years behind us we are definitely looking forward to the next twenty.

Last year's event also featured a special performance of the Star Spangled Banner with an appearance by Marshall County's Local Kentucky National Guard, of which I was one.

Those in charge of the festival promise to continue to bring chart-topping acts along with local favorites to make the Hot August Blues Festival the number one blues event for the surrounding four state area. With their devoted concert goers and dedicated sponsors, they're well on their way to achieving this goal.

Come on out! The festival kicks off on Friday night. It is held rain or shine, so bring you poncho, lawn chair, and sunscreen. Heck, bring your Grandma she’ll love it and so will you!

Hot August Blues is brought to you by Hands On Marketing & Promotions.

On Friday, September 3rd, the Pinta and the Nina, replicas of Columbus’ ships, will open in Grand Rivers, KY. The ships will be docked at the Green Turtle Bay Resort, 263 Green Turtle Bay Dr., until their departure early Tuesday morning September 7th.

The Nina was built completely by hand and without the use of power tools. Archaeology magazine called the ship “the most historically correct Columbus replica ever built.” The Pinta was recently built in Brazil to accompany the Nina on all of her travels. She is a larger version of the archetypal caravel and offers larger deck space for walk-aboard tours. The Pinta is available for private parties while in port.

Both ships tour together as a new and enhanced sailing museum for the purpose of educating the public and school children on the caravel, a Portuguese ship used by Columbus and many early explorers to discover the world.

While in port, the general public are invited to visit the ships for a walk-aboard, self-guided tour.

Admission is $7.00 for adults, $6.00 for seniors, and $5.00 for children 5 – 16. Children 4 and under are Free.

The ships are open every day from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. No reservations necessary.

Teachers or organizations wishing to schedule a 30 minute guided tour with a crew member should call 787-672-2152.

A minimum of 15 is required to schedule a tour and costs $4.00 per person, with no maximum limit on participants.

Stop by for evening concerts, family events, food, a beer garden, and a fabulous fireworks finale at the Port of Paducah.

Returning events this year include the 20/30 Group’s Kick ball tournament, Budweiser’s Beer on the Bricks, Kidz Day at The Quilt Museum, and The USO Big Band Dance hosted by Legacy Personal Care Home.

An exciting new addition to the summer fest is The Furniture World 100, sponsored by Furniture World Galleries & Mattress Superstore. This 100-yard dash involves your old recliner souped up with fancy racing wheels and a good buddy to push you (fully reclined) to the finish line. The winner receives a brand new recliner from Furniture World Galleries. The ugliest recliner of the day will also take home a trophy!! Below is a schedule of events for Paducah Summer Festival 2010!

Registration begins at 6:30 am at shelter 10, with the 5K starting at 8:00 am, and Youth Run at 9:00 am. Cost to register is $17 in advance or $25 on race day and $5 for the Youth Run (Ages 12 and under).

Paxton was instrumental in the creation of this event to help the area's nonprofits build endowment funds.

This year's event helps to raise money for a total of 19 local organizations. You can give as much money as you'd like to as many of the organizations as you'd like, and the community foundation will match all the donations up to $10,000 per organization.

As an added thank you to those who participate, the Paducah Bank WOW! wagon will be giving away free ice cream afterward, and the Noble Park pool will have free swimming passes from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon for anyone who brings their race bib.

Community Foundation of West Kentucky

By donating to The Community Foundation, we’re adding to a permanent charitable endowment that earns a significant amount of interest income each year. The interest is distributed to local organizations in the form of grants. The more we give, the more interest the endowment earns and the more grant money is available to support local groups.

Easter Seals of West Kentucky

Easter Seals creates solutions that change the lives of children and adults with disabilities or other special needs. Teams of therapists, teachers and health professionals help each person overcome obstacles to independence and reach his or her personal goals.
The Market House Theatre enhances the quality of life in our community by providing a “hands on” artistic experience for people of all ages. The theatre offers a regular schedule of artistic opportunities, as well as education and training, for people of all ages. And it encourages participation in the arts as a way to enrich our community and teach valuable life lessons.

Paducah Cooperative Ministry

Paducah Cooperative Ministry is an inter-faith ministry founded in 1973 by and for local congregations. The organization seeks to do God’s work with human hands by drawing together individuals and congregations to respond to basic human needs and conditions, including food, shelter and emergency assistance services.
