About Us
Why HelloKY.com?
As life-long residents of western KY, we were always looking for local events as well as things to do in this area, and we always had trouble finding out what events were actually happening and when.
There was no "one" place to turn to that covered all parts of western KY rather than only particular cities. Residents of Graves County wanted to know what events were going on in Graves County, rather than only in Paducah. The same goes for residents in Marshall, Livingston, Calloway, and all the others counties in western KY.
So my wife and I decided it was time to build that one place in which people could turn, to find out what was going on in their neck of the woods, and we've gotten a lot of interest in only a short amount of time.
What We Cover
We simply didn't want to only list local events around western KY. We wanted something more. An information source for other interests in this area.
We've added and taken away things as we learned what was of most interest and what was of least interest, and as of this current moment, these are the following topics we cover on HelloKY.com:
- Activities - Not everything that can be done in Western KY is covered by an event, and with little knowledge of many of the great things Western KY has to offer, we wanted to help increase the communities awareness. From things like blueberry picking to disc golf, Western KY has so much to offer.
- Dining In - This category covers recipes as well as cooking tips. While the focus here isn't necessarily on Western KY, we do realize many residents are always looking for that perfect recipe for gatherings with family and friends.
- Dining Out - This category is a review section of local restaurants in western KY. While we may at times cover national restaurant chains found here, we mostly only cover those restaurants mainly local to western KY.
- Groups - There are many great groups/organizations in western KY and this is where we highlight them. This category isn't updated as often as we'd like, but that's due to the fact that we only list groups that are interested in being listed publicly to the community.
- Home & Family - This category covers topics ranging from cloth diapering to coupons to anything else that involves the home or family. This category always includes our Manic Mondays section of freebies and discount coupons from our local businesses and restaurants.
- Living Green - With the rising push to go green and help preserve our planet as much as possible, this section covers tips and how-to's on living green yourself.
- Local Events - The main sections of HelloKY.com, this covers major local events that are going on in and around Western KY. It also includes the more minor events that are submitted by our local community members. The reason we only list minor events as they are submitted is to keep the major events easy to find and create less clutter of minor events around them. We've actually gotten many compliments because we keep our local events simple, as opposed to many other local events directories.
Plans For The Future
Many may wonder if HelloKY.com is here to stay or if it is one of those things that start with good intentions but eventually fall to the way-side.
The simple answer is we aren't going anywhere.
Yes, we do offer advertising in order to pay the bills and put food in our mouths, but even if we never made a dime from this website, we'd still keep it running because it's something we absolutely love to do.
If you'd like to contribute to the future of HelloKY.com or have an idea for other major categories we should cover, please let us know through our contact page. We'd love to hear from you!
